A breakthrough quarter for Humanist Giving Program
By AdministratorIn the first quarter of 2012, the compassionate humanist members of Foundation Beyond Belief donated a total of $40,005 to our featured charities, while our change from ten to five charities per quarter has doubled our impact on each charity. Except for the quarter of the Japanese tsunami relief drive, this is our first quarter above $40,000 in total giving.
All categories drew strong support, with Human Rights just edging out Education for the top spot.
The final totals for Q1:
Human Rights CENTER FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS |
$7,505 |
Education VIDNYANVAHINI (Science in Motion) |
$7,460 |
Poverty & Health ROOTS OF DEVELOPMENT |
$7,405 |
Natural World ENVIR & ENERGY STUDY INSTITUTE |
$6,565 |
Challenge the Gap UU SERVICE COMMITTEE |
$6,365 |
Our members also supported the work of the Foundation itself through a voluntary distribution totaling $4,485 for the quarter. We are grateful for this generous support. Donors also contributed $220 in the final weeks of our Humanist Crisis Response drive for famine relief in the Horn of Africa, bringing total donations to organizations working in the famine area to just over $13,500.
Watch this blog and the Humanity at Work newsletter throughout the second quarter for reports from these organizations about how our donations will be put to use. (Non-members may subscribe to our weekly newsletter at the top of this page.)
