FBB Operations Manager Noelle George to Headline Feminine Faces of Freethought (F^3)

By

Feminine Faces of FreethoughtOn September 15, Women of Reason–Dallas will be hosting the Feminine Faces of Freethought (F3) Conference, and Noelle George will be the headlining speaker! This exciting event features many outstanding presenters and various panels, including a diversity panel, a parenting panel (on which Noelle will also be appearing), and a panel titled “What Atheist Women Really Want.” Childcare is free, but you must register for it in advance.

Noelle took up the helm as operations manager for the Foundation earlier this year, managing a team of eight FBB volunteer staff and interns. In her previous role as Volunteers Beyond Belief (VBB) program coordinator, she grew the program from eight original teams to teams in 18 US cities that have held more than 100 volunteer events in their local communities in the past year. Noelle has also managed the Foundation’s intern program since last year. Executive Director Dale McGowan says “Noelle George is among the most skilled and forward-looking leaders of the freethought movement. In the year since I began to work closely with her, I have been continually impressed with her intelligence, her exceptional skills, and her vision.”

Noelle GeorgeNoelle has been a leader in the freethought community since 2009, when she founded Houston-based SECULAR Center USA, the pioneering organization in freethought volunteering. In August 2011 she spearheaded the merger of the SECULAR Center with FBB as the Volunteers Beyond Belief program launched. She has been the coordinator for the Houston Coalition of Reason since 2009 and was previously the ambassador director for Atheist Alliance International (AAI), now Atheist Alliance of America. As ambassador director, Noelle traveled across the country, working with AAI affiliates to discuss their challenges and successes.

Noelle has also become more active in secular parenting outreach over the past year, as she became a parent herself in May 2011 with the birth of her daughter Sonia. Last October, she founded Mothers Beyond Belief, a private Facebook group that has since swelled to almost 1,300 members who identify as mothers. Soon after she created the spinoff Dads Beyond Belief, which now includes more than 350 secular fathers. She has written for the Parenting Beyond Belief blog, and recently resurrected the Parenting Within Reason podcast, with the first show featuring a discussion with superstar guest Julia Sweeney and Dale McGowan, to be released next week.

In addition to headlining F3 next Saturday, Noelle will be speaking in Minneapolis, MN, at the SkepTech Conference in April 2013. She is on the Secular Woman speaker’s bureau alongside many other impressive secular women leaders. She enjoys discussing topics such as navigating male-dominated fields, interfaith relationships, secular parenting, and feminism, among many other things.

If you’re in or near Dallas in mid-September, definitely try to make it to F3 to see Noelle’s talk, as well as many other great women leaders in the freethought movement, including former FBB intern Bridget Gaudette! You can learn more about the event and purchase tickets by visiting the Eventbrite page. Noelle is an incredible inspiration to all of us here at FBB every day—please try to take this exciting opportunity to hear her share her story and perspective on the movement.
