The Humanist Crisis Response program of Foundation Beyond Belief serves as a focal point for the humanist response to major humanitarian crises. Our purpose is twofold: to bring resources to those in desperate need, and to raise awareness of that need in the humanist community and beyond.

SUMMARY: Syrian Refugee Crisis

Civil war in Syria has unleashed what the UN has called “a humanitarian calamity with suffering and displacement unparalleled in recent history."

Over two million Syrians have fled the violence by crossing into five neighboring countries, while an additional 4.5 million are displaced within Syria. Over 120,000 Syrians have been killed in two years of fighting.

As of Sept 3, humanitarian agencies have received only 47 percent of funds needed to provide for basic refugee needs. Foundation Beyond Belief urges the humanist and atheist community to step up to the challenge by supporting the International Rescue Committee, one of the relief organizations at the center of this effort. 100 percent of donations made on this page will go directly to the IRC.
