Each week, Orlando Oasis collects shelf-stable food items to distribute in collaboration with Central Florida Mutual Aid to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. We share food unconditionally and with flexible pickup/dropoff times to ensure that working people, unhoused people, undocumented people, and those with legal entanglements have access. Mutual aid projects seek to empower people who are marginalized under existing institutions; we do this by working with people, not over people, for the uplift of our communities.

This is an ongoing project in collaboration with Central Florida Mutual Aid; Central Florida Freethought Community; and Humanists of Polk County. We are sewing insulated water bottle sleeves for reusable water bottles that will help folx who are unhoused and under-housed to keep beverages cool during the day.

In collaboration with Central Florida Mutual Aid, and with financial assistance from GO Humanity's heat relief grant, we purchased umbrellas (for sun and rain protection); a gallon of aloe, which we divided into 60 individual bottles (for sunburn relief); reusable water bottles; and cooling towels, all for distribution for people experiencing homelessness.

In collaboration with Central Florida Mutual Aid, Happy Tails Pet Care, and Orlando DSA, Orlando Oasis runs a mutual aid pet food bank that shares pet food and other pet care items with folks struggling to make ends meet and provide for their pets. The Mutual Aid Pet Food Bank provides assistance with no strings attached with flexible pickup/dropoff times to ensure that working people, unhoused people, undocumented people, and those with legal entanglements have access. Invasive Plant Removal at Oakland Nature Preserve

Oakland Nature Preserve was established in response to the environmental degradation of wetland and upland habitats surrounding Lake Apopka. North Orlando Oasis volunteers monthly to help restore the Preserve upland property back to its original Sandhill habitat. Habitat Restoration is a long process that requires lots of help from committed volunteers who perform tasks such as: removing invasive plants, preparing the soil, growing native plants, maintaining restored areas, and monitoring wildlife. You can learn more about the Oakland Nature Preserve on their website: https://oaklandnaturepreserve.wildapricot.org/ Join North Orlando Oasis one Saturday each month as we work to remove invasive plants, enjoy one another's company, and learn about our local ecosystem. This is a great event for families! Bring water, sunscreen, and bug repellant.
