Fight cancer with FBB and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

By

In 2012, more than 150 local freethought organizations and 20 national partners joined Foundation Beyond Belief in supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, raising more than $430,000 for science, education, and compassionate patient services. FBB is upping the ante with an international goal of $500,000 in 2013, and we need your help to build this enduring partnership that is uniting our movement behind the common goal of fighting cancer.

LLS Light the Night Walk

How can you get involved? It’s easy! Create or join a local Light the Night team affiliated with the Foundation Beyond Belief international team. Light the Night is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s annual cancer walk, with local sites across the world. You and your local freethought community can use tools provided by LLS, as well as the support of FBB staff, to plan fundraising activities benefitting the fight against blood cancer. Such activities are an incredible opportunity to bond with your fellow freethinkers, as the Illini Secular Student Alliance learned when they organized a Hug an Atheist fundraiser on the University of Illinois Campus. Alternatively, you can fundraise individually by signing up as a walker for the Foundation Beyond Belief’s Virtual Team.

The fun doesn’t stop there! To sweeten the deal, local teams have the opportunity to compete to direct up to $5,000 in grants from the Stiefel Freethought Foundation to local and national nonprofits within the nontheist movement. Additionally, the first $250,000 donated to the Foundation Beyond Belief national team will be matched by the Stiefel family to double the impact of each contribution.

Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Together, we can make that prospect a little less frightening. Please join International Team Captain Todd Stiefel, 2013 Honored Hero Greta Christina, and our national partners in supporting this cause. You may contact Light the Night Coordinator Sam Shore if you have any questions.
