Light the Night funds a new blood cancer research partnership

LLS Light the Night WalkBy Kate Donovan

This October, a wonderful pairing began. In a partnership quite possibly better than wine and cheese, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is working with Celgene Corporation to find and fund blood cancer research.

This is the first foray for LLS’s new program to partner philanthropy with the pharmaceutical industry to encourage projects that can lead to research breakthroughs. The Targets, Leads & Candidates Program aims to increase the turnaround between the discovery of new scientific information and its development into cancer therapy. Said LLS Chief Mission Officer Louis J. DeGennaro, PhD, “As always, our goal is getting new therapies to patients more quickly.”

Though this collaboration won’t have a sizeable impact on those currently suffering from blood cancers, it holds the potential to radically change the experience of future patients.
