Alabang Reading Room Dry Run 2021

October 2, 2021 was the official dry-run for the Alabang Reading Room. This event was a way to figure out the logistics of managing smaller groups of children throughout the day and how crowd control could be maintained. The group of 10 students that participated last Saturday were the children of the HAPI - Alabang volunteers. They were spent a total of 30 minutes in the Reading Room and were given a very short talk on proper behavior when playing or working with others. They were then given coloring sheets to support what was discussed. They were sent home with a snack pack. Part of the dry-run involved the scheduling and rotation of youth volunteers picking up and dropping off the kids at their homes. This is to ensure that they are safe at all times. The purpose of the Alabang Reading Room is to provide the children of HAPI Kids - Alabang with a safe and comfortable place for them to learn once a week, as well as a place for them to have their meals when the feedings are held. This will allow them to have a more structured schedule and instill additional discipline in the children as far as following the room rules that will be in effect. We look forward to scheduling more sessions within the month, and we hope to complete the room so that the year will end with a place for the kids to call their own.
