ASC Sailing Volunteering

The Adaptive Sports Connection (ASC), a chapter of Move United (formerly Disabled Sports USA), helps Ohio veterans, children, and adults who need adaptive equipment or instruction to participate in various sports including skiing, kayaking, sailing and cycling. ASC maintains a modest fleet of sailboats. Trained Sailing Volunteers assist expert instructors in giving 2-3 hour lessons to students with various handicaps. Volunteers help assess students, select life jackets and other equipment, adjust before the lesson and help during the lesson. One COUNT member, the second to get involved with the sailing program, participated in a work day to prepare equipment for the upcoming season, de-winterizing and rigging boats and organizing supplies. 2 COUNT volunteers have worked 6 hours at 2 ASC Sailing events divided between work days, training, and lessons with students. COUNT members have participated in 90 ASC Cycling, Winter Sports, Kayaking and/or Sailing events, contributing 662 hours since we started working with ASC in August 2018.
