WHEN: 11/19/2022@9:00am - 11/19/2022 12:00pm
WHERE: Talon Singko, Phase 2 Moonwalk Village, Las Pinas City
HAPI Jr. worked with the College of Nursing – Level 3 students of the University of Perpetual Help
System DALTA of Las Pinas helped them by both sponsoring and finding private donors to
provide meals, grocery items, and household items for the adults and senior citizens who
attended the event. Prizes and school supplies were also provided to the children who attended
the event as part of Children’s Day 2022. The nursing students conducted a survey prior to the
event to find out what health issues were most common in the depressed areas of the
community among the adults and seniors. The data showed that many were concerned, or
affected by, vision loss, hypertension, and diabetes. The students, with the guidance of their
Clinical Instructors, held a seminar that not only gave simple and cheap solutions to avoid these
health problems but also included information about proper sanitation to avoid catching
dengue or the common cold. In between topics, the attendees were encouraged to get up out of
their seats and do simple exercises that they could also do at home to lessen joint pain and
keep them healthy. While the health seminar continued, the children who attended were
gathered in one area to learn about how to avoid catching the common cold and dengue. They
then played games to review what they knew and received prizes. Attendees had the
opportunity to have their blood sugar levels and blood pressure checked as well. All of this is
very important to the members of the community as they do not have the financial means to
always go to the health centers to have themselves checked. Simple steps taken at home can
help them avoid greater problems in the future. Before heading home, everyone received rice
noodles and puto, a steamed cake made with rice flour.
