HAPI CEO, Javan Poblador, and HAPI CFO, Mutya Valenzuela, recently visited the PawiCare Center in La Paz, San Narciso, Zambales. They were accompanied by HAPI-Zambales Lead Convenor, Van Catayong, and Assistant Lead Convenor, Garry Rabang. PawiCare is a Pawikan Protection and Conservation Program that actively protects sea turtles along a four-kilometer coastline in La Paz. The visit was HAPI National’s first time to experience, and assist in, the hatching and releasing of pawikan (sea turtles). These pawikan hatched in the wee hours of February 13th and were released into the ocean by 6:30am. They will return to where they hatched after 35 years. HAPI donated a canopy and tarpaulin with information about the sea turtles to help both the rangers and the visitors of the Pawicare Center. We also provided grocery packs to the rangers (volunteers who take care of the sea turtles.) HAPI would like to express its gratitude to Sir Rey, the head of PawiCare and the rangers, for his time and assistance during this visit. HAPI would also like to say thank you to all the rangers for their tireless service as they collect the eggs from the shore, bring them to the hatchery, and watch over them until it is time to let them go back to the sea. Without them, and without the service of volunteers who support the rangers, these sea turtles run a greater risk of not making it to their hatch date.
