Michigan Humanists hold an annual workday at the Long Lake Outdoor Center, to help spruce up the campground and prepare it for summer use, including by us for our Secular Summer Retreat in July! This years projects included removing leaves and pine needles from building roofs, moving leaves into the woods, staining buildings, inspecting cabins, window sill repair by our expert carpenter, cutting large trees downed by the winter weather into manageable pieces for campfires, and hauling brush to accessible places for a wood chipper crew.

At the Long Lake Outdoor Center one of our projects is to remove leaves from around all twenty buildings to discourage the critter population from moving in with campers.

Many buildings had large quantities of pine needles that needed removing. We utilized some long tools and long arms to safely get the job done.

One window sill in the lodge had holes that mice were crawling through. Our expert carpenter replaced that sill in a few hours.

Several trees came down during the winter, and one of our teams sawed them into firewood for use by future campers.

Mom and son raked a lot of leaves, and needed a break.

Teams worked together to clear the roofs, and haul leaves away from the buildings, into the woods.
