As part of Secular Week of Action, we are joining Central Florida Freethought (CFFC) to volunteer as a group with the United Against Poverty Orlando (UP Orlando) grocery center and warehouse! Thank you to CFFC for coordinating this volunteer opportunity. UP Orlando is a secular charity that serves folks experiencing poverty by providing crisis care, case management, transformative education, food and household subsidy, employment training and placement, personal empowerment training and active referrals to other collaborative social service providers: https://uporlando.org/about-us Team UP 360 volunteers support the UP Orlando Grocery Program, which allows people living in poverty to purchase food, hygiene, and household items for up to 70% off regular prices. These savings mean that people can purchase enough food – quality food – without having to choose between feeding their families or paying other bills. Children must be 10 or older to participate and a parent must be present. Children accompanied by a non-parent chaperone must be 13. NOTE: You must RSVP to participate, and if you RSVP, please be sure to attend as CFFC has a specific number of spots to fill on the roster. Here are the possible work opportunities depending on what is needed: Produce: Stocking coolers and creating displays Freezers: Cleaning, organizing and stocking freezers Stocking Shelves Warehouse: Sorting products coming in. Member Marketplace: processing donations Campus Clean-up: Various sanitation duties, including parking lot clean-up, gathering carts, sweeping and mopping. They provide gloves, but you must bring your own face-masks, wear closed-toed shoes, and practical clothing. Please arrive at 8:45 for the check-in process.
