WHEN: 02/05/2021 - WHERE:
Humanists Doing Good has regularly volunteered with the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies to help nourish families in need since April 2020. Their motto is “Wherever hunger rises, so can we.” Food Bank of the Rockies ignites the power of community to nourish people facing hunger, and HDG is part of that community. The work we do includes, but is not limited to, the following: --folding, taping, and labeling corrugated cardboard boxes —opening large shrink-wrapped pallets of canned and bagged food (rice, beans, etc.) and moving individual flats for boxes --stocking the "assembly line” with cardboard flats of canned goods and other items --filling assembled boxes with canned and other non-perishable food --sealing the filled boxes by folding tops or taping securely --stacking boxes carefully on pallets—50 food boxes per pallet --breaking down/flattening cardboard for recycling --occasionally bagging fresh produce such as potatoes, apples, and onions HDG has volunteered 101 service hours at Food Bank of the Rockies from January 1 through February 24, 2021. We have an average of eight volunteers at each food box event: the number is limited per COVID restrictions in place at the time based on the size of our workspace. Occasionally, the food bank requests help with thank-you letters and acknowledgements to donors for tax purposes.
