Crochet Mats and MORE!

It takes 500-700 plastic bags to complete a sleeping mat that measures 6 feet by 2.5 feet. The time it takes to complete one mat varies from person to person. Come and get started this month! Learn to make plarn (plastic yarn) from plastic bags. Then crochet or weave the material into mats. Ask about other fabric craft activities, such as heat relief bandanas and water bottle koozies, that you can learn to make too!

Connect with the happy humanists at this meeting and consider giving more! The completed mats and heat relief bandanas, along with hygiene items and other essentials, are given to the Human Services Campus every month. We can use your help with donating needed items and assisting with delivery.

HSGP hosts a Little Free Pantry at the Humanist Community Center!

As neighbors stop by for books and school supplies from our Little Free Library near the sidewalk, they can also step onto the porch to pick up water, food, and other necessities from our Little Free Pantry.

Our happy humanists are dedicated to addressing food security and weather relief in our community.

Your donation of any amount to the Little Free Food Pantry Project will help the Humanist Community Center remain a well maintained and welcoming place for neighbors to come for needed essentials.

With your support, we can keep the Little Free Food Pantry running safely and securely, stocked with items to reduce weather-related illness and hunger.

HSGP members are invited to join the team that stocks the pantry and checks on suggestions and requests from neighbors.

July Blood Drive

Donating blood makes a big difference in the lives of others!

Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood and there’s no substitute for it. When a patient receives blood, it is because a generous donor gave it in advance.

The Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix hosts the American Red Cross at our Humanist Community Center every three months in January, April, July, and October. Humanists can help save lives by scheduling an appointment to give blood at redcross.org and using the Sponsor Code HSGP.

Did we mention that you get free cookies and other tasty snacks and drinks after you donate? Yes! You Do! All you want!

Service Saturdays with Project Humanities

Project Humanities distributes clothing and other items to 150-200 unsheltered adults during their Service Saturdays events and we can help!

Join a group of happy humanists and lend a hand with set-up and organization of tables, interact with the clients, and offer support to ensure the service day runs smoothly.

Learn more about Project Humanities, and their amazing programming and get all the details about the day of service including maps and parking suggestions. The posted address is for parking with the event taking place at the Human Services Campus.

Secular Week of Action offers an alternative to the National Day of Prayer, a day set aside in federal law for the people of the United States to “turn to God in prayer.” A national day that calls for a specific religious practice as an expression of civic virtue rather than for a shared practice is divisive and discriminatory. Prayer is not an adequate response to national crises. Get off your knees and on your feet! Take action! Support our neighbors by contributing to our DIGITAL DONATION DRIVES!
