FBB’s 2013 partnership with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is just picking up steam, and some local communities are already beginning to organize events to help reach our international goal of $500,000 for scientific research and patient care.

The Triangle Freethought Society of North Carolina recently hosted comedian and musician Roy Zimmerman as entertainment for a fundraiser benefitting the LLS. In addition to an evening of community and song, TFS asked members to get involved by donating and signing up to participate in a fall cancer walk. The local freethought group is off to an incredible start, putting itself in a position to hold on to the title of top fundraising team for the Foundation Beyond Belief International Team, which they won in 2012.

To underscore the important work being done by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and its allies, TFS showed “Fire with Fire,” a documentary detailing the repurposing of HIV to fight cancer cells and bring a seven-year-old cancer patient into full remission.

You can help humanists fighting cancer by creating or joining a local FBB cancer walk team, or joining the virtual team for people who just want to fundraise individually.
