How Roe v. Wade’s Overturn Impacts Our Work

By

On Friday, June 24, 2022, the United States Supreme Court overturned the ruling from the 1973 case, Roe v Wade1. Roe v. Wade had been a landmark case guaranteeing abortion as a constitutional right. The Supreme Court’s most recent decision has triggered abortion bans in 13 states, with more to follow.

The overturning of Roe v Wade will undoubtedly set off a domino effect in which more children will be born into poverty, and more families will be in need. In the United States currently, 16% of children live in poverty1. 2.5 million children are without shelter.14.8% of households with children go to bed hungry3. And these numbers will only go up.

GO Humanity believes that any child who is born has a right to the resources they need to avoid poverty4 and hunger5, and to maintain good health and well-being6. We believe that no child should ever go without. And we envision a world where all people have access to food, water, and life’s basic necessities.

To this extent, our organization exists to meet these very needs. Our service teams7 work every day to make sure that children all over the U.S. have access. In the previous year, our organization distributed more than 20 million pounds of food to over 600,000 people in 32 cities through the Compassionate Impact Grant8, 10 and another 26,117 pounds of food to 4,422 households through the Food Security Project9, 10. Now, in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision, we know that we will have to do more than ever to ensure that the children who will be born have access to food, water, housing, and the resources they need to live happy, healthy lives.

We ask that you stand with us as we move forward in addressing the need, helping children all over the United States. Please support our work by donating.
